- The business sets up a Facebook page not because they have a marketing strategy in place, but because it is what every other business is doing. In addition, no other platform is used to support the page.
- Alternatively, the SME has no interest or is simply incapable of integrating social media into the marketing strategy.
Regardless of which category the SME should fall into, it is clear that the business either lacks the expertise or capability or exploiting social media for marketing purposes effectively. This can be due to small firms that neglect incoming expertise of young, social media savvy graduates. By choosing not to hire these individuals there is talent starvation as technologically adept job-seekers look for employment in places where their social media expertise is welcomed. (Bakeman & Hanson, 2012) This is something I feel any social media inclined company should seriously bear in mind.
